WHAT IS FAIRLY-TRADED COFFEE?
In developing countries where farmers work modest plots of land, some benefit by forming democratically organized "farmer co-operatives". This allows them to make decisions on their terms. When a coffee distributor buys from a farmer co-op, they give a fair exchange directly to these small-scale family farms.
